The majority of flat ground memorials that are currently being offered throughout the country are made from granite.  Granite is one of the hardest natural stones quarried and has become the industry choice because of its ability to withstand the elements.  There are different names for these types of memorials but they are usually one in the same.

The average thickness of these flat memorials is 4 inches. 

The overall size will vary depending on cemetery regulations and preference.  The typical size for a standard flat memorial is 12 inches  x  24 inches, however some cemeteries will allow up to a full ledger 32 inches x 72 inches to be placed on the grave.

If the cemetery allows additional sizes, take into consideration that you will be able to add more inscription, emblems and photographs if you select a larger size memorial.
