General Information about
Markers
There
are typically 2 types of ground memorials sold
throughout the country, Granite memorials and
Bronze memorials.
The majority of the funeral expense is
for items and services that will no longer be
seen after the burial.
With this in mind, it makes sense to pick
a memorial that is truly an expression of your
loved ones life.
The decision regarding the memorial
material that is chosen can be influenced by a
number of factors:
Cemetery regulations can
vary from one cemetery to another.
It is important that you research the
regulations at the cemetery you have
already chosen or are interested in.
By doing this, you will be better able to
make the right decision regarding your memorial. Some cemeteries only allow certain materials and/or sizes in
their property. Most Funeral Homes have the local cemeteries rules and
regulations on file and can help you with this
information.
However, it is a good idea to double
check with the cemetery yourself.
Personal preference should
play a major role in your decision for the
memorial. Granite
memorials offer a wider range of colors and
sizes while Bronze memorials are somewhat
limited to a few specific colors and sizes. Bronze memorials are sometimes associated with prestige and
longevity.
Most bronze will eventually pitina and
change the color from brown to a weathered green
color. This
is a natural occurrence with bronze and most
people like the pitina weathered look.
Granite memorials will hold their
original color and they will not be tarnished or
damaged from the natural elements over time.
Budget should play a role
in your decision on what type of memorial to
choose. Bronze
is typically more expensive than granite on size
comparison.
Depending on what it is you
are ultimately trying to achieve with the
memorial, granite memorials offer the widest
range of designs and styles.
Since most granite memorials are cut from
large slabs of granite and then hand carved to
the final shape, the manufacturers are able to
offer a wider range of styles.
Bronze memorials are limited in shapes
and styles because each memorial is “cast”
in a foundry and it is very expensive to develop
a new “cast” for customized requests.
